Professional Internship Programme

Undergraduates in the BSc in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry (CBC) programme who opt not to do a Final Year Project must instead complete a Professional Internship. This is the module CM4072, which consists of a 22-week full-time internship, doing chemistry-related work at an approved company or institution.

The internship can be done in either Semester 1 or Semester 2. Please refer to the OAS site for the internship start/end dates.

Internship Declaration

Year 3 CBC majors will receive an email regarding the Professional Internship programme, sometime in January or February. If you are planning to participate in the Professional Internship during Year 4 (rather than doing an FYP), you must reply to this email with the following information:

  1. Your personal details (name and matriculation number).
  2. Whether you intend to do the internship in Semester 1 or Semester 2 of Year 4.

Note that if you fail to make this declaration, or tell us the wrong semester, you will not be able to apply for the internship, and will have trouble graduating!

Internship Application

After you have declared your intention to participate in the Professional Internship programme, you will be contacted via email by NTU's Career & Attachment Office (CAO), one semester before your internship period. The CAO email will contain information about the possible internship positions, and how to apply for them.

You will have two options:

  1. Choose an internship position from the CAO list. You will have to apply for the position via Studentlink. Note that you will have to provide your resume as part of the application.
  2. Find an internship position yourself. It is possible for students to source for an internship position by themselves. The job scope must be related to the study programme, and must include a sufficient technical component related to chemistry. Self-sourced internship positions are subject to approval by the Division and the CAO. The CAO email will provide instructions about how to request for approval.

After the CAO has assigned you to an internship position, you are not allowed to switch to another internship position, or to an FYP, under any circumstances.

Good luck! We hope you have a good time, and acquire useful skills during your internship!
